Climate Chance Conference Africa 2023

Data for urban development and energy access

Description:

Africa accounts for just 4% of annual greenhouse gas emissions, yet it is one of the continents most exposed to climate change. Paradoxically, it is a continent where access to data remains a major problem (availability, access and reliability). This data problem represents a major obstacle to the development, implementation and monitoring of local policies and mitigation and adaptation projects in Africa. Following on from previous workshops conducted by the Observatory for Climate Action in Africa, this workshop aims to :

  • Highlight the major issues underlying data governance in Africa, particularly for cities in urban and energy planning
  • Present best practices in accessing and using data for urban development and access to energy
  • Present opportunities for partnerships (technical and financial) to improve access to climate and energy data in order to meet the needs of local African actors
  • Draw up a seriesof operational recommendations for the Yaoundé roadmap.
