The European Action Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change: 2nd advocacy deliverable from the Marseille Summit
In the run-up to the Marseille Declaration on strengthening Europe-Africa cooperation on adapting to climate change, Climate Chance is launching a new advocacy campaign for European adaptation.
The European Climate Change Adaptation Plan, drawn up by the Climate Chance Association, follows on from a first event dedicated to adaptation to climate change, held in Liège in 2024, which led to the Liège Declaration, proposing a prioritisation of adaptation actions in strategic areas.
The Climate Chance Europe-Africa Summit in Marseille on 31 March and 1 April 2025 brought together 1,500 participants from the two continents to focus on adaptation. This Action Plan was drawn up mainly on the in-depth work carried out during the forty or so sessions held at the ‘Adaptation: taking action’ Summit, co-organised with the City of Marseille.
It provides operational proposals that reflect the reality of European financial tools and public policies and calls for the adoption of ‘adaptation reflexes’ in all European policies and sectors, at a time when the Commission is beginning work on updating its adaptation strategy and a large number of strategic sectoral directives are also due to be revised.
In order to meet the European Commission’s timetable for drawing up the new European adaptation strategy, the action plan will be officially presented to the European institutions in the coming weeks, and then widely disseminated. It will be unveiled on 16 June at the #ECCA2025: European Conference on Adaptation to Climate Change, to be held in Rimini (Italy).
