Pitch

Following the plenary session and as part of a series of sessions on high-capacity transport modes, experts will discuss the theme of “public transport as the first victim of rapid motorisation in African cities”.
BRT makes it possible to separate public transport from general traffic along corridors where demand is high. However, due to their urban configuration, financial capacity, short-term ambitions or the limited maturity of their public transport systems, some cities choose to adopt an incremental approach.
This results in the phased introduction of different high-capacity transport modes into commercial service, often accompanied by a lengthy process of reorganising and restructuring bus and coach routes, informal transport services, and taking into account other motorised modes of transport (cars, motorcycles, etc.).
