Summary

The Side Event will be organized by WWAP, in cooperation with UNECA, UN-Water, The UNESCO Regional Office for Africa. Speakers and participants are from African Member States of ECA, key private sector organizations and civil society organizations attending the Climate Chance Summit-Africa 2019. The Side Event aims at contributing to increasing the understanding of African Policy makers on the role water plays in achieving the SDG 13 and draft key messages and policy recommendations to better take water into account in climate adaptation programs and measures in Africa. The event will present key findings looking at how water resources management can contribute to achieve climate resilient societies in the context of sustainable development. It will discuss policy recommendations and case studies to support key stakeholders in Africa in better understanding and integrating water and climate issues in policy and practice. The event will focus on the positive aspects and possibilities of managing climate and water in a more coordinated and sustainable manner.
