Marseille Declaration to strengthen cooperation between Europe and Africa on adaptation to climate change

At the end of the Climate Chance Europe Africa 2025 Summit “Adaptation: Taking action”, the Marseille Declaration was adopted, developed and supported by non-state actors gathered during the event on March 31st and April 1st in Marseille.

At the end of the two-day summit, participants called for collective and coordinated action to address the challenges caused by climate change and protect people, ecosystems and local economies from its effects. The Marseille Declaration particularly highlights five areas for effective cooperation between Europe and Africa on adaptation to climate change:

• Scientific cooperation, a foundation for shaping answers to the challenge of global warming.
• Finding financial and technical solutions for adaptation and mitigation.
• The central issue of housing adaptation and urban resilience.
• The key role of local action.
• Mobilised societies, networks of actors, especially at the economic level.

Collective and ambitious, it is a landmark and decisive step. The Marseille Declaration, a collaborative process with major networks and non-State organisations present in Marseille, calls for strengthened cooperation between Africa and Europe on adaptation. Its concrete recommendations will be addressed to states and carried out on major events of the international climate agenda 2025, such as the COP30 Climate in Belém, Brazil.

The Declaration has already been signed by the largest networks of cities and regions, NGOs and associations, businesses … and remains open for signature. This declaration cannot be signed individually.
