15th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties on Wetlands (COP15)
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Climate chance is taking part in COP15 in Ramsar.
The 15th meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar COP15) is being held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, from 23 to 31 July 2025, under the theme ‘Protecting wetlands for our common future’.
The aim of this COP is to adopt a new Strategic Plan 2025-2034, the Convention’s fifth action plan. It is expected that the role of ecological connectivity will be strengthened, in line with the guidelines of other UN bodies, in particular with the recognition of its crucial role in achieving the 30×30 objective of the new global framework for biodiversity.
Climate chance is taking part in the Ramsar COP15 to promote the convergence between the climate and biodiversity agendas, in particular through the promotion of ecological connectivity and the establishment of biodiversity corridors, building on the work and progress made by the International Coalition of Biodiversity Corridors in Africa.
On the agenda for #COP15 #Wetlands are several meetings for our association, including:
- A delegation from the Zimbabwean Ministry of Environment, with CarbCred Africa, on the potential support that the International Coalition Biodiversity Corridors in Africa could provide to the Zimbabwean authorities in terms of high-integrity biodiversity carbon finance.
- Amy Fraenkel on the short-term prospects of the Global Partnership for Ecological Connectivity (GPEC), in order to position our expertise on financing issues within the Partnership, and the next CMS COP scheduled for March 2026 in Brazil.
- Representatives of the NGO IFAW, discussing their Room to Roam programme, which is part of our efforts to mapping ecological corridor initiatives, and which we will be highlighting shortly.
- The Benin delegation to begin discussions on the programme for our next Climate Chance Summit #SCCA2025, which will take place in Cotonou, Benin, on 23 and 24 October 2025 and will devote a day to biodiversity, financing and connectivity.
