Side-event: “Systematic observation of greenhouse gases (GHG) to support climate action in cities and regions”
Climate Chance is co-organizing and hosting a side event with Integrated Carbon Observation System European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ICOS ERIC) and the government of Côte d’Ivoire (Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development – UNFCCC Focal Point).
Systematic observation of greenhouse gases (GHG) to support climate action in cities and regions.
The event presents new approaches to generate spatial/temporal information from emission inventories focusing on an African and a European point of view. The event aims to show how the comparison with observation and innovative data collection can improve inventories and support climate services for mitigation, adaptation and risk management.

« The Observatory of climate action in Africa which was launched last June, has a dedicated team working on 4 specific issues : energy, forests, cities, and adaptation. The observatory is open to inputs from all actors with data and analyses from all the continents.
Next year is the Global Stocktake so states will have to provide inputs on their efforts since the Paris agreement. Data for national inventories will be crucial. »
