EESC Debate on Adaptation – Towards Climate Change and Social Resilience

Climate Chance will take part in a debate on adaptation organised by the EESC, on May 23rd in the framework of the EESC’s ad hoc group on the COP.

This debate is for members of the group only. It takes place in person in Brussels and online.

The debate will focus on the following objectives :

  • How to move from reactive to preparedness and preventative approaches;
  • Understanding nature-based and science-driven solutions that link climate adaptation and mitigation with biodiversity conservation and restoration;
  • Strengthening participatory planning, especially engaging local and vulnerable communities;
  • Explore international cooperation and mechanisms for building climate and social resilience. 

Lou Bachelier-Degras, from the Climate Chance Observatory, will present the outcomes of the Climate Chance Europe-Africa Summit 2025 on the theme “Adaptation: moving to action”, with a focus on the Marseille Declaration: “Strengthening Europe-Africa Cooperation on Climate Change Adaptation” – the first official deliverable co-developed and promoted by non-state actors gathered at the Summit.

  • Martin ŠPOLC, Adaptation & Resilience to Climate Change, DG Clima, European Commission.
  • Paola LEPORI, Senior Expert, Biodiversity & Nature-based Solutions, ICLEI.
