Tuesday 25 April 2023, Online

Climate Chance participates in an event organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization at the Economic and Social Council Youth Forum on on April 25th. The event aims to present and discuss ground activities promoting the implication of students in climate debates and concrete actions at city level in African cities with a special focus on the "Climathon" methodology.

“A Climathon for students to tackle climate change challenges in secondary cities: feedback of 3 experiences in Burkina-Faso, Niger and Senegal”

This Climathon delivers progress on Sustainable Devloment Goal 11 “sustainable cities and communities” by enhancing youth initiatives on the ground to make cities more resilient to climate change and crises such as the COVID-19 crisis. Youth worked in team and relied on a wide range of stakeholders and institutions such as university, municipality, associations, and FAO in order to build strong communities.

By gathering experts and students, this side event aims to present and discuss ground activities promoting the implication of students in climate debates and concrete actions at city level:

  • Highlighting how agronomy students discovered their urban realities through practical exercises,
  • Sharing the reason why the Climathon emerged as good tool for involving youth with a municipality,
  • Sharing lessons learnt from this experience,
  • Sharing the innovation projects that emerged during the Climathon; and
  • Opening discussion on youth involvement from developing countries, getting feedbacks and ideas of the audience for next steps of solutions building.
