Week for Sustainable Mobility and Climate 2022

Urban logistics

Description :

Urban logistics is an important challenge for improving the quality of life in urban areas. The supply of goods, courier services and the transport of renovation materials are essential to the commercial, economic and residential life of cities, however, the resulting flows aggravate congestion, generate significant pollution, and are detrimental to the health and well-being of inhabitants within the area.

Several types of strategies have already been successfully implemented by mobility managers, showing that the responses to this challenge must be adapted to the specific needs of each city. In the case of countries of the Global South, the challenges associated with the growth of maritime and river traffic have direct consequences on the performance of national economies and the competitiveness of logistics operators, as well as the environmental impacts and quality of life in urban areas. In this general context, the session on Urban Logistics will address the strategies that can be considered by transport authorities to improve the flows circulating or transiting in the urban space.
