Press conference – Launch of the Sector-based Report 2021
A press conference is organised for the launch of the 4th Edition of the Global Synthesis Report on Climate Action by Sector 2021.
The press conference will take place online on Monday, 29th November from 11:00 to 12:00 (Paris time).
Climate Chance presents the key takeaways and trends of the new edition of its Observatory‘s Global Synthesis Report on Climate Action by Sector: “Back to the Future. 2021: the Great Acceleration of Climate Action… and Emissions”.
The resumption of activities after the shock of the Covid-19 pandemic reveals two seemingly contradictory general trends. On the one hand, climate action is accelerating: the installation of renewable energies, the adoption of electric mobility, commitments to carbon neutrality, and the desire to develop disruptive technologies for the transition have all clearly gained momentum this year. On the other hand, despite these encouraging trends, emissions are on the rise again, and the many commitments made by governments and companies still do not put the world on a trajectory compatible with the Paris Agreement.
The Sector-based Report 2021, the only document that summarises all climate action year after year, attempts to explain the coexistence of these two divergent trends, and to fully realize the complexity of this pivotal period.
Six years after the adoption of the Paris Agreement, this report offers a unique overview of global climate action in major emission sectors: energy, transport, buildings, industry, waste, and land use.
