Focus 3 Empowering Grassroots Women Energy Entrepreneurs

Overview

Conventional energy policies, finance, programmes and activities tend to focus on international actors and organisations with limited attention to grassroots communities and organisations.  It also limits the efforts or local women entrepreneurs to be leaders and champions to scale up existing women enterprises. This event is to discuss what has been achieved by women energy entrepreneurs, the challenges they face and what solutions and opportunities to empower them to scale up their enterprises and companies to contribute to SDG 5, 7,& 11.

  • Present state of clean cooking and productive  use of energy in West Africa/Ghana
  • Challenges facing present crop of women entrepreneurs in use of energy in the energy-agriculture-water nexus
  • Access to finance to scale up
  • Policy changes to support women entrepreneurship and energy governance (Affirmative Action, Clean Cooking Bill, etc)
  • Exhibition of clean cookstoves, fuels, solar and other renewable energy technologies, etc
