TOMA(-Ombree (Inter-Outre-Mer Programme for Resilient and Energy-Efficient Buildings) –
BioBuild Concept supports the development of sustainable construction projects.

Overview of the project

The TOMA project aims to reduce the use of air conditioning in French Guiana and Mayotte through a sustainable construction system based on compressed earth bricks and local bio-sourced materials.
By incorporating bioclimatic solutions and local plant resources, the project will improve the thermal performance of the buildings while limiting the environmental impact of transport and embodied energy.
Simulations have confirmed the gains in comfort and energy efficiency.

The results show that air-conditioning consumption can be reduced by 37% to 53% compared with a standard breeze-block wall.
When used ecologically (set at 24°C when occupied and 28°C when unoccupied), energy savings can exceed 85% in the building tested.
By reducing the need for air conditioning, these solutions limit greenhouse gas emissions and improve the comfort of vulnerable populations.
Produced locally, bio-sourced materials strengthen local economies while reducing their carbon footprint.
Funded under the OMBRE programme (steered by the AQC) and CEE, which relies on a Steering Committee made up of the DGEC, the DHUP, both part of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Solidarity, the DGOM of the Ministry of Overseas France, ADEME and EDF SEI, the programme's funder.
