International Conference on Sustainable Mobility and Climate 2026

XIX Codatu Scientific Conference

Presentation of the XIX Codatu Scientific Conference

The XIX Codatu Scientific Conference is a key forum for exchange within the scientific community on the challenges of sustainable urban mobility systems in countries of the Global South. It will take place on 19 October in Abidjan and will bring together PhD candidates, researchers, and academic staff from Côte d’Ivoire and abroad, as well as specialised research networks, with the aim of fostering knowledge sharing, experience exchange, and cooperation.

Organised at the Sofitel Hôtel Ivoire, the conference will be held in French and English and will adopt a highly participatory, discussion-focused format. It will open with a plenary session, followed by ten parallel sessions throughout the day, organised as round tables lasting between one hour and one and a half hours. Each session will be led by a moderator and two speakers in order to encourage interaction with the audience and promote collective reflection around ten key themes related to sustainable urban mobility.

The conference aims to provide an overview of current knowledge and research on these issues, while also contributing to the development of a forward-looking vision for urbanisation in Africa. At the end of each session, a positioning paper will be produced to summarise the main takeaways from the discussions. These contributions will then be presented during the opening session of the International Conference on Sustainable Mobility in African Cities (CIMDC), ensuring that the work is highlighted and widely disseminated.

Under the scientific coordination of Dominique Breuil and Solène Baffi, this 19th edition is part of a collective knowledge-production dynamic serving more sustainable, inclusive urban mobility systems adapted to the realities of territories in the Global South.
