Climate Chance Summit Africa 2019

Closing Plenary

Overview

At the end of the summit, this plenary will showcase the results of the activities and consider the next steps in the mobilization of African subnational and non-state actors in the fight against climate change, in the framework proposed by Climate Chance and their partners (CoMSSA / UCLG-Africa and their Climate Task Force for Africa). The leading theme of this plenary will be the mobilization of the African non-state actors, in all their diversity, against climate change.

The discussions by the diverse working coalitions will be premised on the question “How do we get there.” It will demonstrate how the different African coalitions want to concretely contribute and reinforce the mobilization of the local governments and non-state actors in the fight against climate change in Africa.

Furthermore, the question about access to finance will remain central to non-state actors and local governments. In fact, their mobilization will only take place if the public and private donors would pursue and intensify their efforts to finance the climate action of the subnational and non-state actors, in their diversity, in order to bring solutions to the climate change challenges in Africa. This plenary will also be the occasion to share with the participants the newest and most recent finances for climate action in Africa and linking it to the work of Climate Chance’s coalitions and partners
