Overview of the project

In 2021 the POP Nigeria Initiative came into existence with a major focus on climate education. It is the first climate education program in Nigeria in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment. The project scope is for 21 states in Nigeria cutting across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. The Protect Our Planet Movement Nigeria initiative on climate education pioneered by Samuel Chijioke Okorie, is a Youth-Led climate and environmental action and advocacy program that seeks to unite the efforts of the youth activist, non-government organizations, MDAs, community service organizations, policymakers, stakeholders and community members in combating climate change crisis through climate education. To strengthen this campaign, we believe that it is very important to inform, educate and train youth, community leaders, teachers, students and stakeholders on the topic of climate change crisis and ways to mitigate it. Our major mission is to promote sustainable environmental practices and livelihoods while advocating for low carbon options and responsible production by companies and industries through education, advocacy, and meaningful stakeholders’ engagement.

This includes South East, South-South, South West and currently in the Northern region which we began in December 2021 and would be rounding off by April 2022. The project has also been replicated in countries like Cameron, the United States, Mexico, Uganda, and the UK.
