The LIFE ARTISAN project, coordinated by the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB), is a multi-stakeholder European initiative that aims to demonstrate and promote the potential of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for climate change adaptation.
Overview of the project
“Adapting to Climate Change with Nature-based Solutions”, scheduled for release in September 2026.
This free online course is designed to help participants understand climate adaptation challenges, take action, and transform their practices through Nature-based Solutions. It will be available on the OFB’s online learning platform.
The course offers a flexible, step-by-step learning experience based on practical examples and feedback from projects across mainland France and the French overseas territories. Participants will learn to:
- Understand the links between climate, biodiversity, and human well-being.
- Identify and plan Nature-based Solution (NbS) projects for climate change adaptation.
- Identify and mobilize the stakeholders and expertise needed to implement NbS projects.
- Take action using practical methodologies applicable to local authorities, sectors, businesses, and organizations of all sizes.
Two levels of certification are available:
- “I Understand” Badge – demonstrating a solid understanding of key concepts and enabling participants to raise awareness within their networks.
- “I Implement” Badge – recognizing the ability to design and implement an NbS project within a territory or organization.

The MOOC and the Adaptation & Nature Forum are two flagship events in 2026 designed to strengthen knowledge and skills on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for climate change adaptation.

The initiative aims to raise awareness among a broad range of stakeholders about climate adaptation challenges and Nature-based Solutions while strengthening the skills of professionals from all types of organizations.

The LIFE ARTISAN project, coordinated by the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB), is a multi-stakeholder European initiative that aims to demonstrate and promote the potential of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for climate change adaptation. It also seeks to raise awareness, build stakeholders’ capacities, and support the development and scaling-up of NbS projects across France, including its overseas territories.
The project brings together 27 partner organizations, all contributing to the development of resources, including tools, guidance documents, and reports, to accelerate the implementation of Nature-based Solutions throughout mainland France and the French overseas territories.
