Rehabilitation of the Jamiolle HV Substation

Elia manages more than 8,849 km of the Belgian electricity grid, ensuring 99.99% reliability. By balancing production and consumption, Elia transports electricity from producers to consumers via the distribution networks.

An initiative of Elia

Overview of the project

By investing in this rehabilitation and delegating the management of the plot, Elia reduces its costs and enhances the biodiversity of the site.
The site of the former Jamiolle substation, in the commune of Philippeville, had been derelict and overgrown for some fifteen years, following the demolition of the facilities.
Elia wished to preserve this plot of land, and every year the maintenance teams invested time and money in maintaining this plot of over one hectare.
As part of our sustainability program, this site is being rehabilitated and transformed into an agro-ecological zone. Invasive plants will be removed, a pond will be created and open hedges and an orchard of 77 trees will be planted.

Objective

Rehabilitation of a brownfield site into an agro-ecological zone.
