Climate Chance at the Fourth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly in Nairobi

Climate Chance will participate in the Fourth United Nations Environment Assembly in Nairobi between the 11th and 15th March 2019. Members from the association with participate in sessions during the CIties Summit and the One Planet Summit.

Climate Chance’s delegation et the Fourth United Nations Environment Assembly

From the 11th to the 15th of March 2019, the fourth session of the UN Environment Assembly will take place in Nairobi in Kenya. This event aims to bring together ministers from nations worldwide in order to take measures and reach agreements on policies that aim to support a healthy environment for our generation and future generations too.

The Assembly  gathers together every two years and offers the opportunity to all nations, including deputies, local authorities and indigenous peoples as well as civil society representatives and academics to conceive solutions for a healthier planet, together.

The “Financial readiness and bankability” session

As part of this fourth session of the UN Environment Assembly, the Cities Summit will be held on the 13th March on the theme of « Innovative solutions for environmental challenges and sustainable consumption and production. »

Co-organized by the UN Environment Programme, UN Habitat, United Cities and local governments, ICLEI, the Global Task Force and Cities Alliance, the objectives of the session were to:

  • Provide an opportunity for high level dialogue by mayors, ministers, private sector leaders and civil society representatives on challenges and innovative solutions to achieve livable and sustainable cities
  • Identify key messages to UNEA-4 on innovation for sustainable consumption and production in cities;
  • Kick start a process to develop partnerships and commitments ready for the SG’s Climate Summit on integrated urban infrastructure.

Romain Crouzet, the Programme coordinator of Climate Chance, participated in the organisation behind the « Financial Readiness and Bankability » session by identifying and selecting the speakers for the panel. Representing Climate Chance, two members of the association, Frédéric Vallier et Anne Barre moderated the conference.

Climate Chance’s participation at the One Planet Summit

The One Planet Summit is a an international event bringing together Heads of State and non-state actors including business leaders from all over the world. The aim is to account for the implementation of the 12 international commitments made at the first One Planet Summit in December 2017 which was launched by the French President Emmanuel Macron, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the World Bank Jim Yong Kim.
