Overview of the project

COMBO+ supports the integration of biodiversity into infrastructure projects via the mitigation hierarchy. It strengthens capacities and regulatory frameworks and contributes to climate and environmental commitments.

Objective

The COMBO+ project is an innovative programme that supports African countries in implementing sustainable economic development, while fully integrating biodiversity conservation and the fight against climate change.

Quantitative results

2 regulatory texts currently being revised to provide a framework for the mitigation hierarchy, 1 technical assistant mobilised at the AGEE to support the MEDD. 110+ participants trained via 4 modules on the mitigation hierarchy, 6 conservation and restoration projects analysed, 4 pilot case studies selected to test offsetting, 5 technical guides developed, 1 roadmap developed to update red lists of ecosystems and species.

Qualitative results

Capacity of MEDD and AGEE strengthened through technical assistance. Biodiversity better integrated into project planning. Public and private players trained in ecological compensation. Collaboration with the REB and commitment from mining companies. Structured dialogue to guarantee the feasibility of offsets.
