Overview of the project

This research tackles the sustainability issue of smaller latino-american cities that halt growth and lack infrastructure ; on top on this, climate-induced natural disasters.

In this respect, the work of this institute also aims to contribute to resolving the problem by proposing a methodological study of smaller latin american cities on the following subjects: sustainable development with a focus on the physical, environmental and climate dimension.

To do so, the study is organised into 3 sections:

  • analysis of existing informations on the subject;
  • definition of priority actions;
  • and finally, proposition of an indicator system.

The results offer a system with 39 indicators, divided into 3 sub-sectors:

  • physical, environmental and climate vulnerability
  • environmental focus
  • urban planning and social cohesion
