Overview of the project
Zero Plastic for a Sustainable Planet is an environmental and climate education programme being run in schools in North and South Kivu from December 2024 to June 2025.
Supported by NATURELCD and AUPIC, it aims to train teachers and raise awareness among pupils from an early age.
The project comprises three stages: raising awareness, concrete action (collecting waste, planting trees) and processing plastic waste.
Children learn to create useful objects from waste, while helping to make their school and neighbourhood greener.
Its slogan: ‘Educate to save, protect, conserve and act’.
Training children as climate ambassadors and spreading the message of climate action throughout the DRC.

The project is underway and we will determine at the end of June
This is an ongoing project. We need to train at least 5,000 children as climate and environment ambassadors by June 2025. These ambassadors will be our spokespeople to their parents and everyone around them.
The project has no funding, it's just a local project. We have a joint fund made up of members of two organisations, NATURELCD and Aupic de l'info. The local contribution enabled us to visit 10 schools in Goma.
Given the current security situation, we have stopped our activities in Goma for the time being.
We hope to restart on 10 April during climate week.

NATURELCD est une organisation non gouvernementale qui base ses activités sur l’éducation environnementale et climatique.
Nos sensibilisations et nos actions pour le climat nous permettent d’être en collaboration avec les écoles primaires, secondaires et universitaires.
Au-delà d’une organisation, elle est aussi un média qui prône la protection de l’environnement, de la biodiversité et l’adaptation aux changements climatiques à travers des pratiques simples et naturelles, en collaboration avec les scientifiques.
