Mapping of youth organisations mobilised on climate and environmental governance
JVE (Young Volunteers for the Environment) is an NGO created on November 23, 2001. It has 32 local branches in Togo, 25 National Representations in Africa and more than 1000 members.
Overview of the project
The initiative consists of capacity building and engagement of youth in advocacy for better climate and sectoral policies in agriculture (agro-ecological transition), energy (energy transition) at regional, continental and global levels.
This action requires a better knowledge of active youth organizations on climate and/or environmental justice, as well as a better knowledge of local, national, regional and continental policies and governance processes on climate change, both at the institutional and civil society levels. These political processes include, among others, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), food and nutrition security policies, rural development policies, agriculture, energy, etc.
Two sub-actions have been envisaged, namely
– The mapping of existing and functional policy processes and governance frameworks, as well as youth organizations mobilized on climate and environmental governance, more specifically on agricultural and energy transition issues in West Africa;
– The mobilization of youth in several West African countries (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Chad, Togo) to take part in the Global Climate March, initiated by Oxfam, with the objective of positioning the demands of youth in front of the COP27 in Egypt.
Strengthen youth-led grassroots social movements and reach out to more young women/girls and men/boys to raise awareness, inspire climate action, and support their engagement with local, national, regional, continental, and global policymakers.

5 documents mapping youth organizations in the 5 countries (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Chad, Togo) and a regional report of the activities conducted.
About 50 people trained in each country on climate issues including Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), food security and nutrition policies, rural development policies, agriculture, energy, etc.
