Promotion of Ecological and Organic Urban Agriculture in Southern Benin
This project aims to install an urban school farm in the town of Abomey-Calavi. This school farm will produce an ecological and biological product, thanks to locally produced organic inputs.
Overview of the project
The project consists of installing an urban school farm in the town of Abomey-Calavi. This school farm will produce according to an ecological and biological mode thanks to locally produced organic inputs. 300 to 500 young city dwellers will be trained on the school farm in 2 years. In parallel to the city program, the project will intervene in rural areas. 30 women will be trained in the production of biofertilizers through the biotechnology of biomineralization. They will receive production kits at the end of their training. They will be the ones to supply the future urban farms with biofertilizers. Thus, a new source of the green economy will be created for women farmers and green self-employment opportunities will be offered to young people in the 3 main cities of southern Benin: Abomey-Calavi, Cotonou and Porto-Novo.

SDAD/African BioCompost Grower is a company that offers specific organic agricultural inputs to crops. The fertilizers are derived from a process of biomineralization of weeds. They contain trace elements, humic acids, fulvic acids, humins, a fraction of auxin and cytokinins (helps plants to better manage climatic and hydric stresses) and efficient microorganisms to restore the edaphic microfauna. Organic and green farmers improve their yields and become competitive in the market. Our phytosanitary products are natural plant extracts that act more efficiently against bio-aggressors. We also offer expertise, training classes in ecological and organic agriculture and technological solutions to better manage agricultural products.
