Overview of the project

The project aims to preserve the coastline threatened by marine submersion. It involves :

  • training and raising the awareness of local communities about the importance of preserving mangroves
  • locating the sites to be developed/restored by identifying natural resources and mapping them
  • developing/restoring mangrove areas and converting them into protected areas by organising participatory reforestation
  • training local residents in the design and use of ecological ovens as an alternative energy source to mangrove firewood
  • mobilising stakeholders and making them more responsible, which will necessarily involve the participation of several organisations specialising in environmental protection
  • monitoring of the mangrove wood cutting and marketing chain, which requires systematic control of the products that come from this area towards the end user.
  • drawing up rules on the main activities of companies in sensitive mangrove areas.
  • the development and implementation of participatory plans for the exploitation and restoration of mangrove resources aimed at sustainable use within the communes with all the stakeholders concerned
  • setting up communication platforms to avoid conflicts of competence between the various administrations involved in the field/sector
  • strengthening the intervention capacities of public services and other needy bodies involved in mangrove management
