GREC-SUD (Group of Regional Climate Experts)
Created in 2010, the Association pour l'Innovation et la recherche au service du climat (AIR Climat) is analysing climate change adaptation and mitigation trajectories in the Provence-Alpes region.

Overview of the project

GREC-SUD puts science at the service of climate adaptation in the PACA region. It supports the ecological transition of public policies, strengthens links between researchers and local players, and raises awareness among elected representatives, local authorities, citizens and schoolchildren. It does this by publishing scientific reports, organising conferences, participating in local bodies and creating educational tools such as murals, comic strips and animated films.
Inspired by the IPCC, GREC-SUD aims to centralise, transcribe and share scientific knowledge on climate change and its impacts in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
Ongoing research
01/01/2015 - en cours
GREC-SUD has produced 12 thematic reports, 6 territorial reports, 4 illustrated summaries, 10 regional fact sheets and 7 fact sheets dedicated to the Regional Nature Parks. The number of speeches and conferences held over the last ten years amounts to several hundred. An analytical study of the project will be carried out in 2025 to quantify the results obtained after ten years of activity.
Over the last ten years, GREC-SUD has become a key regional player in the field of climate change. Today, its expertise is recognised: its actions and productions are cited by the Cour des Comptes, the Haut Conseil pour le Climat, and in local climate plans. Since its creation, GREC has relied on the voluntary contributions of more than 350 scientists, from the life and earth sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences.
The project is funded half by the Région Sud and half by ADEME.
organisation
Since 2010, AIR Climat has been studying responses to climate change in the PACA region. It relies on experts to steer GREC-SUD and other projects on water, food and climate. Its main actions are to disseminate science, raise public awareness, promote local initiatives, support research and create synergies between stakeholders.
GREC-SUD has many partners, mainly institutional: ITEM, Medecc, ARS, the Bouches-du-Rhône department, the AIX-Marseille metropolis, AMU and the DREAL,
