Overview of the project

The WEIE 2022 program is a biannual program that aims at creating the next generations of women pioneers and ambassadors of Green Electric Mobility and transport with the aim of triggering a gender equity revolution in the transportation and logistics sector.

The Women Empowerment in Entrepreneurship (W.E.I.E) Iinitiative that is promoting women participation in Green Transport & Delivery Business in Rwanda is a project that focuses on enhancing the resilience of young women to open new possibilities for income generation in a sector that has little to non-existent women participation.

Quantitative results

S.U.L E-Mobility Solutions Hub provides a skills acquisition and capacity development platform in the nascent e-mobility sector in Rwanda that is in line with the Government’s Vision of Green Transport aimed to help cut down the high rate of pollution and carbon footprint emitted by fossil fuel vehicles. Over the past two years, we have been able to provide training to over 2200 (55% women) participants comprising students, youths, young women, single mothers, and young adults in the fields of professional riding courses and electric vehicle assembling of electric 2-wheelers, electric cars/vans, electro-mechanics, electric vehicle technicians, and electric vehicle charging station infrastructure operation/management.

Qualitative results

The existing gender gap in the transportation and logistics sector is further deepened by the fact that Green mobility is relatively new in a predominantly male industry. Along with the project partners, S.U.L is diversifying the highlighted sectors by successfully implementing phase one of the WEIE project that was launched on June 2nd, 2022 with the main purpose of graduating female trainees empowered with professional riding skills, leveraging tech tools for income generation, eco-friendly e-commerce logistics, and customer engagement/interaction.
The WEIE project is a biannual program that aims at creating the next generations of women pioneers and ambassadors of Green Electric Mobility and transport that will motivate fellow women to surpass their fears and societal misconceptions.
