Training small scale farmers on organic farming to protect Ozone layer
Through a training project, the Community Sustainable Development Empowerment Programme (COSDEP) raises awareness among farmers about the use of chemical fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides.
Overview of the project
In Kenya, most of the small scale farmers are using chemical fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides in their farms. Those products are responsible for acidic rains which affect the crops, and therefore lead to food insecurity on a long-term basis.
From this realization, the COSDEP decided to implement a training project for the small scale farmers as concern the use of organic farming in order to ensure the protection of Ozone layer, to increase in soil fertility and to save cost of purchasing chemical fertilizers.

Founded in 2001, Community Sustainable Development Empowerment Programme (COSDEP) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that focuses on ensuring continued learning and practice of Ecological Agriculture in rural communities to improve food and dietary conditions.
The NGO is working with farmers in four counties in Kenya – namely Kiambu, Muranga, Busia and Narok – where at least 20,000 small scale farmers have been trained and two thirds involved in exchange visits as a way of promoting knowledge and information exchange among them.
