The “N’djra-aï-tché-do” project, which means “I Commit” in the local Wémè language, is an initiative led by the Benin Network of the World Youth Parliament for Water (RB/PMJE). This project aims to strengthen climate resilience and the sustainable management of water resources in the commune of Aguégués, a lacustrine area particularly vulnerable to flooding, erosion, and the impacts of climate change.
Implemented over a fifteen-month period (September 2024 – December 2025), the project is built around three pillars: training, community reforestation, and participatory local action. It plans to train and raise awareness among 40 local actors (youth, women, local authorities, and members of the Local Water Committee) on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), climate change, and project management.
In the field, the project has enabled the planting of 1,444 acacia seedlings, with the participation of five zonal committees. A local protocol for seedling management and monitoring was developed participatively, accompanied by a community competition rewarding the three best-performing committees for their commitment to monitoring and maintaining the seedlings. The winning committees receive technical and financial support to implement three local climate micro-actions as part of a Local Lead Adaptation promotion strategy.
By combining environmental education, community engagement, and nature-based solutions, N’djra-aï-tché-do promotes the ecological and social sustainability of territories exposed to climate risks in the commune of Aguégués.
