PROCHEC – Ecological Charcoal Production Initiative

We are a non-governmental organization, LIVE FOR OTHERS (LIFOT) ASBL, based in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Our mission is to provide assistance and support to vulnerable populations and to combat all types of disasters.

An initiative of LIVE FOR OTHERS-ONG/ LIFOT-ASBL

Overview of the project

PROJECT PRESENTATION
The production of ecological charcoal, also known as bio-charcoal or green charcoal, is part of our initiative to create income-generating activities and implement various local community development projects. The outcomes of this project (PROCHEC) will also contribute to job creation, social reintegration, and the socioeconomic empowerment of vulnerable groups.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE – PROCHEC
In response to the universal call to save humanity by combating climate change and global warming, and their harmful effects on the human, wildlife, and natural environment—caused by systematic deforestation and greenhouse gas emissionsLIFOT ASBL/NGO has designed and implemented the Ecological Charcoal Production Project (PROCHEC).
This project is an innovative, effective, and 100% eco-friendly initiative that fully complies with environmental standards.

PRESENTATION OF ECOLOGICAL CHARCOAL
Ecological charcoal, also known as green charcoal or bio-charcoal, is a solid fuel made from agricultural and biodegradable household waste rich in carbon.
It is considered an eco-friendly alternative to traditional wood charcoal, as it helps reduce deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions.

ORIGIN AND PRODUCTION
Ecological charcoal is produced from organic waste such as agricultural residues (straw, peanut shells, etc.) and household waste through a process of pyrolysis or incomplete carbonization.
This transformation produces a fine black powder known as ecological charcoal.
Also referred to as Green Charcoal, Bio-Charcoal, or Briquettes, LIFOT-ASBL has developed its own process for converting household and other organic waste into this sustainable energy source.

Objective

Standing up to protect life on Earth by combating climate change, deforestation, and all forms of environmental destruction.

Project timeline

01/06/2025 - 31/12/2050...

Quantitative results

Being in a pilot and experimental operational phase, we currently produce around 100 kg per month, due to the lack of funding and production equipment needed for large-scale manufacturing and commercialization.

Qualitative results

Ecological charcoal represents an effective and promising solution for a cleaner and more sustainable energy transition, offering an eco-friendly and affordable alternative to traditional wood charcoal.

ADVANTAGES OF GREEN CHARCOAL

  • Eco-friendly: It reduces deforestation as it does not require cutting down trees.

  • Economical: It can be produced from locally available waste materials, helping to lower costs for users.

  • Less polluting: It emits less smoke and fewer greenhouse gases than traditional charcoal, and it does not blacken cooking utensils.

  • Healthier: It is less toxic for users and contributes to reducing respiratory diseases.

Financing

The project is funded through limited internal resources derived from membership contributions within LIFOT ASBL/NGO.
